Genshin Impact is ringing in the new year with a bang with the upcoming 2.4 update. This update brings lots of new content to enjoy, the return of some fan favorite characters and the redemption of a certain ill-received event. Here are the five biggest things coming in Genshin Impact 2.4.

1) Down under

Inazuma just keeps expanding. Our latest venture into the Land of Electro brings us deep underground to Enkanomiya, an expansive cavern underneath Sangonomiya. It will use a light and darkness mechanic for its puzzles, and the story for the region will be told from different points of view in the environment. It’ll be interesting to see how miHoYo manages to pull off the non-linear storytelling.

2) Sunday’s Finest

Outfits are back, and it seems like there’s more coming down the pipe. Like the previous outing for new character cosmetics in 1.6, there are two costumes new to the event. The four-star character Ningguang and five-star character Keqing both get stunning evening gowns as a new cosmetic.

Ningguang’s outfit will be offered for free as part of the Lantern Rite event, and Keqing’s will be available at a discount during the update. I hope these cosmetics come more frequently in the future, and I’m glad to see them back here.

3) Lantern Rite: Revengeance

Speaking of Lantern Rite, this year’s brings back the best parts of Lantern Rite while removing the dull events that bogged down last year’s festival. Ten Intertwined Fates will be given out as part of a log-in bonus with the chance to score a free four-star Liyue character of your choice in the event.

New to Lantern Rite are mini-games to get into the festive spirit; a welcome change from last year’s fetch questing.

4) Four banners

With the success of 2.3’s concurrent Eula and Albedo banners, miHoYo is doubling down again. For the first time, the game will have four event banners in an update: the new five-star Shenhe will share a banner with Xiao in his first rerun, while the second wave will feature two re-runs in Zhongli and Ganyu.

5) Yun Jin, free for all

Yun Jin’s the new four-star character that will be featured on the first half of 2.4, during Xiao and Shenhe’s banner. However, she is also eligible for the free four-star giveaway as part of the Lantern Rite event. Everyone has a way to unlock her this way, no wishing required.
