Fortnite Chapter 3: Map changes, battle pass and more you should know
It’s official — Fortnite’s Chapter 3 has finally arrived. Players can expect to see major updates that officially went into effect on December 5.
Every new chapter of Fortnite brings needed improvements, crossovers and new characters to the battle-royale style game. At the end of Chapter 2, players were introduced to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who will play the character, “The Foundation.”
Let’s explore more about what we can expect to see with the latest Fortnite chapter.
Fortnite’s New Map and Major Changes in Chapter 3: Flipped
At the end of Chapter 2, players were left viewing the island they’ve been playing on completely flipped upside down to reveal an entirely new island. There seem to be regions with varying conditions (i.e., snow, sand, greenery). It’s presumed that the Cube Queen has been defeated — in the Chapter 2 Live Event, players heard her screams as the entire island flipped.
Fortnite released a trailer showing highlights of the new chapter, including new skins, new weather conditions and map locations. One highly anticipated skin is the new Spider-Man skin. Players will be allowed to customize and earn with this chapter’s Battle Pass.
Some notable locations include The Sanctuary, home to The Seven, and The Daily Bugle, the famous newspaper headquarters in Spider-Man. There are plenty more locations worth visiting, like Greasy Grove or Shift Shafts, so be sure to check out the new chapter to explore and discover new animals and NPCs. As the snow melts, it’s rumored that island secrets may be revealed, too.
On December 11, you’ll be able to swing and fly high in the sky using Spider-Man’s web-shooters no matter what skin you’re using. It’s expected to see some of Spidey’s friends and foes enter the shop at some point during this new chapter as well.
Chapter 3 Battle Pass
Chapter 3: Flipped will allow you to choose either a free or premium battle pass path like previous seasons. While the free pass may be enough for laid-back players, the premium battle pass offers much more value.
The premium battle pass is around 950 V-Bucks (around $10), and the bigger battle pass bundle is 2,800 V-Bucks (around $25). The battle pass has about 100 tiers to unlock as you earn XP throughout the game. Like last season, you’ll be able to use Battle Stars to make progress through the Battle Pass.
Speaking of XP, players can now earn XP in different game modes. For example, you can earn more XP by playing Creative Mode, a new change worth noting. This means players can still play their preferred mode without losing out on XP.
In 2019, over 200 million players had their accounts hacked, but there doesn’t seem to be any added protection against hackers in this new season. This may change in future updates, as Epic wants to prevent bots or hackers from entering the game.
It’s always suggested to review Fortnite’s account help page if you’ve been hacked so you can learn how to protect yourself and your account. Always keep your Fortnite game updated to the latest version to prevent bugs or glitches. No one wants to lose out on V-Bucks or Battle Pass progress.
New Items for Battle in Chapter 3
Here are some of the new weapons included in Chapter 3: Flipped:
- Ranger Assault Rifle
- MK-Seven Assault Rifle
- Striker Pump Shotgun
- Auto Shotgun
- Stinger SMG
- Sidearm Pistol
- Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper
Additionally, Tents are now available. You can stash three items in it to carry with you between matches! To reclaim them in a new game, you’ll have to construct a new Tent or take over a deserted one. Your teammates can also interact with your Tent by spending Bars, and you’re able to pick up your Tent and move it to any location of your choice.
Another major change set to transform the game for players is sliding to evade enemy fire and take out your opponents. Simply hit the crouch button while running to slide around the island!
