Five Animal Crossing non-Villager characters to have coffee with
Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s 2.0 Update brought a lot to the already gigantic game. For collecting gyroids again to visiting Harv’s Island and interacting with merchants new and old, it has everything. My personal favorite though is the return of The Roost. The Roost is the chill coffee shop run by Brewster, one of my favorite characters in Animal Crossing history. Beyond just being able to grab a coffee, there’s also an Amiibo phone which allows you to contact almost any character and invite them to get coffee. Beyond just villagers, these invites can also extend to non-villager characters like Tom Nook, Kicks, Kapp’n and any of the others you can think of.
So that being said, let’s look into my 5 favorite non-villager NPCs you can invite to get coffee. These are in no particular order.
5. Wisp
When I started doing this article and looking through all the various options the very first choice I wanted was Wisp. I just had to know. Sure, everyone’s seen talk about what Isabelle and Tom Nook do and all that, but what would Wisp do? Turns out, he can’t do a lot, the poor thing.
When you invite him, unlike most of the other characters, he takes up a spot at the bar instead of the booth. He’ll hover there talking about how he doesn’t understand why Brewster is looking at him funny. And my personal favorite is when he talks about how he loves the smell of coffee but it LITERALLY goes right through him.
4. Wilbur and Orville
Animal Crossing’s second-biggest power couple (we’ll get to the first in a minute) is Wilbur and Orville, the two Dodos that run the airport you use to fly all over the place. But this gives you a chance to see the two of them outside the airport.
Both times I tried summoning one of them they came together and the both like to lament about the jobs they’d rather have. Orville wishes he could fly instead of be behind the desk but he doesn’t have his pilot’s license. Wilbur wishes he could have a desk job instead of flying and wished Orville would get his license. It’s all cute.
My personal favorite though is the occasional moment where they say things that make you somewhat nervous about them being your go-to for flight.
3. Flick and C.J.
The definitive power couple in Animal Crossing: New Horizon. At no point has Nintendo ever put out an official statement but oh my god come on. Even if they weren’t they should. They mostly talk about each other. They share a home. They talk about sharing moments together. They’re wonderful.
Another reason why Flick and C.J. have become a favorite of mine is that some of the comments they make seem very real. For example, Kicks just becomes a bad Cockney stereotype and Saharah is just nothing new and still talks about selling carpet. But between Flick and C.J. barely talking about bugs and fish, or their constant comments about their life together, you also get comments like this which is…a LOT to unpack.
4. Daisy Mae
Daisy Mae, as I found out talking to people recently, is a character a lot of casual Animal Crossing characters have never met. My kids didn’t even know she existed because the character shows up in the morning and they don’t have technology until the evening. Yes, I’m THAT parent, hush.
And while having Daisy Mae over doesn’t really reveal that much about her character, there’s two reasons I love having her stop by. Firstly, she shows up with her grandmother, Joan. That’s the original turnip seller and I love seeing characters from the past drop by. And secondly, Daisy is way to young to have coffee so Brewster baked her a cookie and that warms my heart about as much as his coffee warms the rest of me.
5. Resetti
Oh my god, I missed Resetti. As someone who’s played since the Gamecube, I’ve been deeply engrossed in Animal Crossing to the point where my respect for the game and how it wants to be played is REAL. Because of this I can’t stand gaming the game. I never time travel or finagle the system. Even when I wrote the article duplication glitch I just took the bells I made getting screenshots and dropped them off on a random island. I don’t care if you do that stuff, I just don’t.
And this is a big reason I missed Resetti. Resetti used to straight-up notice if you were messing with your game and he’d school you about it. And every time he showed up he’d go on a longer rant taking up minutes of your time scolding you. But being able to have coffee with him at least showed me that he’s going okay. I miss you, buddy. Your health comes first.
