Xbox is sort of in the same boat as PlayStation in October. There are a bunch of new game releases but no major blockbuster exclusives. That said, there’s plenty to keep you busy through the start of the holiday months.

Most of the games releasing in October 2021 are playable on both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One although the next-gen version usually offer enhanced gameplay features such as higher resolution,  better framerate, and faster load times.

For many, the highlight of October is the release of the long awaited Alan Wake Remastered. This critically acclaimed action-adventure from Remedy Entertainment made its debut on Xbox 360 and PC all the way back in May 2010. Over a decade later, you can finally experience the psychological thriller/cinematic action once again complete with both DLC releases and, of course, general improvements.

Back 4 Blood, a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, also arrives this month. If you’re hankering for some thrilling cooperative zombie-slaying –and who isn’t during Halloween — then this is the game for you. Back 4 Blood is also an Xbox Game Pass title, which means you can play it for free at launch if you’re an Xbox Game Pass member.

Of course, we’ve also got our bevy of sports titles such as FIFA 22 and NHL 22 coming this month. Both games offer generational leaps in terms of gameplay and performance on Xbox Series X. FIFA 22 makes use of HyperMotion technology to offer the most realistic gameplay experience ever, while NHL 22 finally makes the switch to EA’s Frostbite Engine, resulting in improved visuals and more realistic physics.

And then we have Far Cry 6, the next installment in Ubisoft’s open-world action-adventure. Far Cry 6 takes us to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time, where players will help lead a modern-day guerrilla revolution in a story that is definitely reflective of the situation in Cuba.

Me personally, I’m looking forward to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Developed by Eidos Montreal, this is an action-adventure RPG in which you call the shots as Star-Lord. Your decisions will not only affect how the fellow Guardians react to you, but also impact how the story unfolds.
