This week, after numerous leaks, Activision finally revealed Call of Duty: Vanguard. The publisher shared a trailer that teased a World War II setting among other things and confirmed that the worldwide reveal will actually take place on Thursday, August 19.

But there are some caveats. Unlike in the past, Activision will not simply be releasing a trailer for the newest game. Instead, the publisher is choosing to reveal Vanguard via an in-game experience within Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale spinoff.

We don’t know what sort of event this will be or how Vanguard will be revealed through Warzone. We only know the date and time for when it will all unfold.

For those who are interested in the reveal, you’ll want to be logged into Call of Duty: Warzone before 10:30 a.m. PT / 1:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, August 19. Because we know how popular these big in-game events can be, you’ll want to get there early and Activision is actually incentivizing people to arrive ahead of the scheduled time with extra XP.

"Be the first to the fight and be rewarded – report to Warzone and play in any playlist between 9:30 AM and 10:29 AM PT and prepare to participate in a limited-time Double XP, Double Weapon XP, and Double Battle Pass XP event before the battle begins."

That’s not all, though. It seems there will also be a special event alongside the reveal with rewards that you can earn.

Anyone who participates in the Battle of Verdansk and completes the objective can earn rewards such as new weapon and knife blueprints, bike skin, timepiece and more. We don’t know what these objectives are exactly, but one of the images teases players to “Join the fight, defeat the target, get to the exfil and earn rewards.”

The Call of Duty blog adds a bit more context: “Intel from the frontline has revealed a new kind of weapon inbound to this location. We haven’t had eyes on it, but we know it’s bigger than anything we’ve seen before.”

This was posted alongside a map of Verdansk with a specific portion (the train tracks) outlined with a dotted line.  Interestingly, the post seems to suggest that players will be working together to complete the objective.

"Be ready to squad up, intercept, and neutralize the target. This is likely to be a coordinated fight with all squads working together to get the job done."

Next. Call of Duty League Championship will require COVID-19 vaccinations and masks for attendees. dark

Although the event begins at 10:30 a.m. PT, it sounds like players will have all day Thursday and into the weekend to complete the objectives and earn the rewards. Stay tuned as we continue our coverage of Call of Duty: Vanguard and the in-game event in Warzone.
