Sanrio x Animal Crossing: Everything Chai’s Amiibo card unlocks
Sanrio, the folks behind global phenom “Hello Kitty,” recently started their crossover with Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Nintendo Switch. There are six cards that you can collect and they are currently from Target only in the United States. Each of these has a picture of a camper filled with furniture themed after a particular Sanrio character. They also show a driver who is loosely themed after that particular character.
One of the things I absolutely love about this is that the animals driving aren’t the same kind of character as the character. The rabbit “My Melody” is represented by a deer villager named Chelsea who is wearing rabbit ears. Cinnamoroll is represented by an elephant. It’s amazing.
The elephant, who is easily my favorite of the Sanrio villagers, is named Chai and my god is she delightful. If you needed a buddy for Tia, the elephant with a teapot head, you can’t do better than Chai, who has a teacup firmly attached to her scalp.
In addition, when you scan her card you get a great selection of rabbit and tea-themed furniture and clothing based on the floppy ears Sanrio character “Cinnamoroll”. Check it out.
The overall look of comfortable furniture mixed with a tea-house esthetic has turned this into one of my favorite sets from the entire Sanrio collection. The cafe-style stools, tables and signage will make easy work of anyone building a teahouse.
My personal favorite though is the Cinnamoroll sofa which looks like the most comfortable thing ever. Not to mention it has two cinnamon roll-looking pillows and a little bunny tail on the back. It’s wonderful.
As cool as all that furniture is, however, it does not hold a candle to the villager, Chai. Like I said, Chai is a baby blue elephant with fandom for baking and for the rabbit Cinnamoroll. Her home looks like a little cafe and she wears her love of tea on her sleeve, well, her head as she literally has a cup of tea on her head at all times.
She also has a peppy nature so that pretty much confirms whatever is in that pot is caffeinated because my god if I ever accidentally drink decaf Earl Grey, I won’t know but you will. Trust.

Chai’s card, like the other Sanrio cards like Rilla, Marty or Étolie, can be either scanned at Harv’s Island to unlock the furniture or at the ATM at Town Hall if you want to invite the villager. Enjoy!
