With Stardew Valley Update 1.5 you can forge a melee weapon up to three times to improve its stats and add a special effect.

Stardew Valley Update 1.5 introduced the Forge. This useful new mechanic allows you to upgrade weapons, enchant weapons and tools, combine rings and change weapon appearances. It even allows you to craft Infinity Weapons which are the “true form” of the Galaxy weapons (aka the strongest weapons in the game).

In this article, we are discussing weapon forging. That is upgrading your melee weapons to improve their power by adding additional stats. You can only forge the dagger, hammer or sword.

To upgrade your weapons, you must first visit the Forge, which is located on the 10th floor of the Volcano dungeon on Ginger Island. Once there, you can spend gems and cinder shards to improve your weapons. There are six different gems and each provides a different stat boost to your weapon.

  • Amethyst: More knockback (weight)
  • Aquamarine: More critical hit chance
  • Emerald: More weapon speed
  • Jade: More critical hit damage
  • Ruby: More damage
  • Topaz: More defense

Forging costs one gem each time; however, the number of cinder shards required increases for each level (10/15/20). You can use three of the same gems or mix and match.

Using a diamond will randomly fill out any remaining forge levels with random upgrades and costs only 10 cinder shards. You can use a diamond first and it will provide three random stat boosts. If you’ve used a gem previously and already have a stat on the weapon, then using a diamond will fill out the two remaining slots.

Forging can be done with normal weapons as well as with Infinity Weapons, the upgraded variants of Galaxy weapons. While Infinity weapons are already the strongest in the game, they can be improved upon further by adding stats through forging. It is recommended to do this so that you can take on the game’s hardest monsters.
