Stardew Valley Update 1.5: How to get the Fairy Dust recipe
Fairy Dust is a new item in Stardew Valley introduced with Update 1.5. It removes the wait time for certain products. Here’s how to obtain the recipe.
Stardew Valley update 1.5 arrived this week on PC (it will be coming to consoles and mobile in 2021). The update — dubbed the largest ever for the game — introduces a ton of new content, including the new area Ginger Island and a powerful new item, Fairy Dust.
Fairy Dust can be sprinkled on kegs, furnaces and other refining equipment to instantly receive their product. To craft Fairy Dust you must first obtain the recipe, which requires you to meet Birdie and complete The Pirate’s Wife quest on Ginger Island.
You can find Birdie on the west coast of Ginger Island. To reach her, you’ll first need to give 10 golden walnuts to a parrot guarding it. Once you talk to Birdie, she’ll tell you all about her husband, a pirate who had been shipwrecked years ago. While Birdie has been searching the sea, finding parts of his ship and looking for keepsakes. To help collect these keepsakes, you’ll need to talk to various villagers around town. Make sure you have the War Memento that Birdie gave to you. Then follow these steps to obtain the Pirates Locket.
- Give the War Memento to Kent to get the Gourmet Tomato Salt.
- Give Gourmet Tomato Salt to Gus to get the Stardew Valley Rose.
- Give Stardew Valley Rose to Sandy to get the Advanced TV Remote.
- Give the Advanced TV Remote to George to get the Artic Shard.

Once you’ve obtained the Pirates Locket return to Ginger Island and speak to Birdie. In exchange for the Pirate’s Locket, she will teach you the Fairy Dust recipe. The item requires one Diamond and one Fairy Rose to craft.
Diamonds can be made on your farm if you have the Crystalarium, or you can find them from higher-tier monsters found in the volcano on Ginger Island. The Fairy Rose is obtained by purchasing seeds from Pierre’s Store, the Night Market, the Traveling Cart or by placing seeds in the Seed Maker.
