As Halloween approaches, Ghost type Pokémon come to mind. They haunt Psychic types on the battlefield and every type of person and Pokémon off of it, especially on Halloween Night. It takes skilled and fearless trainers to master these Pokémon. Here are the top 5 Ghost type Pokémon experts.

5 Allister (Gym Leader of Stow-on-Side)

Allister’s personality makes him both the most and least fitting Ghost-type specialist, which adds to his uniqueness. His Shy Guy mask only begins to describe the mystery surrounding this trainer, but his usage of some of the most unique Ghost type Pokémon such as Cursola, Mimikyu, Runigerus, and Polteageist. His appearance in the Twilight Wings YouTube series showed that he is a kind and approachable individual. Allister is not to be underestimated, as he is the second opponent the trainer faces in the Galar Champion Cup Finals.

4 Shauntal (Elite Four member of the Unova Pokémon League)

Anyone who enjoys writing will appreciate Shauntal, who like Lucian of the Sinnoh Elite Four enjoys literature. Her Elite Four chamber is ghastly and secluded, fit for her personality and type specialist. Her team features powerful Unova Ghost type Pokémon Chandelure, Golurk, Jellicent, and Cofagrigus. The most fascinating thing about Shauntal is how her stories reference other trainers she has battled in the Pokémon League, overtly referencing Volkner, Flint, Agatha, Bertha, and Looker. Being at the center of these crossroads makes battling her more fun.

3 Fantina (Gym Leader of Hearthome City)

Some trainers focus on battling, others prefer contests. Fantina is one of the few trainers within the Pokémon universe that can be considered a master in both fields. Her French accent and Drifblim inspired dress instantly gave her personality, and she is also unique because the point of the game in which you battle her for a Relic badge depends on what game you play. Whether she’s the third gym leader in Platinum or the fifth gym leader in Diamond and Pearl, her ace Mismagius will prove to be a formidable road block on the road to Sinnoh glory. She handed Ash a tough defeat with her use of Hypnosis as well, so she is not to be underestimated.

2 Agatha (Elite Four member of the Indigo League)

Long before Red, Blue, and Leaf embarked on their journeys to complete the Pokédex at Professor Oak’s request, Oak himself was a skilled trainer. His rival was Agatha. Both of them achieved great success, but while Agatha enjoyed battling, Oak took a different approach and dedicated his life to research. For years Agatha resented him for that decision, and her ideals can be seen clashing with Oak’s grandson and his rival through the games and the Pokémon Generations YouTube series. Once you defeat her team of Ghost and Poison types, she finally realizes the merit in Oak’s perspective. As the generations progressed, we’ve seen her Gengar line heavy lineup include some other Ghost types like Misdreavus and Alolan Marowak.

1 Morty (Gym Leader of Ecruteak City)

All of these Ghost type experts are skilled and make for difficult battles, but what makes Morty stand out is his connection and devotion to the Johto Legendary Pokémon. Like his friend Eusine, Morty’s main motivation to become stronger is to meet Ho-oh, which appears at the Bell (previously Tin) Tower to only the most worthy of trainers. In both the games and the anime, Morty appears to have supernatural senses and possesses impressive knowledge of the history of Johto and its legends. His once limited team of the Gengar line has expanded to include a variety of Pokemon through his appearances in Heartgold and Soulsilver as well as Black 2 and White 2, including Froslass, Dusknoir, Sableye, and Chandelure.

As a Bonus Halloween Treat, I want to recommend some Pokémon Halloween Vibe Episodes to Watch that are available on Netflix. Many of these involve Ghost type Pokémon, others share other Halloween tropes such as involving other mysterious or scary Pokeémon or circumstances.
