Pokemon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra tree hides a bizarre encounter

After you encounter the legendary trio of birds at Dyna Tree Hill, did you know one other Pokemon is there with you?

Anyone who has played Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC is familiar with Dyna Tree Hill. Even if you haven’t made it there yet you can’t miss it. It’s a massive, Dynamaxed tree that can be seen over the mountains from almost any point on the new map.

It’s also, as you can see in the header picture, where you go to encounter the new Legendary trio of birds for the first time. But even if you did everything you thought there was to do, did you know the tree itself has a bizarre secret? Cause it does and I hate it.

After you meet the birds and they go their separate ways like a trio of divorced parents you’re left alone on Dyna Tree Hill by yourself, so you think.

Go shake the tree. Do it.

When you shake it, the game will tell you nothing has happened and ask if you want to shake it again. Go for it. Nothing will happen. I guess try again. And again. And again. Eventually, your character will notice something moving in the branches and it’ll ask you if you want to shake the tree again. Do it. Give in to the urge.

Suddenly something moves from above. The screen goes black. Dramatic music swells as you get a message that something has pounced on you and dragged you into a Dynamax Cave. As your character, by themselves, stands up as the camera performs a Michael Bay camera pan, you’re met with the giant form that attacked you.

Yup. A @#$%ing Greedent. Easily my least favorite of the new Pokemon. But the catch is that this one is tough. Like…it killed my Zygarde from my other article. How dare it.

But it does let you go through all six of your Pokemon instead of saddling you with a singular one so keep at it, even if the battle moves painfully slow.

When you defeat it, you don’t get the ability to catch it. It shrinks back down to normal and then goes back up in the tree but at that point, berries fall. A LOT OF THEM. Roughly around 100 berries of various types (including some incredibly rare ones I had never seen before) drop down and you automatically collect them all.
