Activision has yet to announce Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, but it was recently listed on the PlayStation Store.

Well, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered didn’t release today as rumored; however, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist — or that it won’t release this week. In fact, according to Eurogamer, the highly anticipated remastered campaign will launch tomorrow.

Eurogamer reported earlier today that a leaked listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was prematurely posted on the PlayStation Store. I didn’t see it to confirm and the listing page has since been removed but I have no reason to doubt the claim.

The listing comes after a ton of details were unearthed last week. Dataminers scoured the files of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s latest update and uncovered ads and banners for the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. They also found references to new maps for multiplayer and additional playlists for Warzone, including duos and quads.

Over the weekend, it was reported that the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered could launch today, March 30. That stemmed from prominent CoD leaker Okami, who accurately leaked information about Warzone prior to its official announcement. Before that, Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was spotted on the official Korean ratings board.

What’s interesting about Eurogamer’s report is that the publication claims that Activision has had Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered ready to go for quite a while now but was waiting for the right time to release it.

"Eurogamer sources suggest the remaster has been sat awaiting release for quite some time – Activision has simply been waiting for the right time to release it, as other Call of Duty games come and go with and without story modes themselves."

What makes now the right time? It’s possible that with everyone indoors and unable to leave their homes due to the coronavirus that Activision feels now could be a golden opportunity to boost sales. With everyone bored at home, maybe they’ll check out the campaign and perhaps dive into Modern Warfare‘s multiplayer or the recently released Warzone.

Eurogamer speculates that it would’ve looked weird for Activision to release the remastered campaign in 2018 alongside Black Ops 4, which launched without a story of its own.

"A release alongside 2018’s campaign-less Black Ops 4, for example, would have looked like Activision was leaving out a traditional element of the Call of Duty package only to sell a remastered campaign mode separately."

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was remastered in 2016. Activision rebooted the sub-series with 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare — the most recent installment in the long-running franchise.

Eurogamer also reiterates that this will only be the campaign story for Modern Warfare 2, not the multiplayer. It sounds like it will be a standalone release with the German store having a listing price of €25 (around £22 or $27). That seems to be a weird number so I’m going to guess either $24.99 or $29.99. The listing mentions the campaign has been “completely remastered with improved textures, animations, physical rendering, HDR lighting, and more.”
