They say money doesn’t grow on trees, but in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it actually does! In the game, there’s something actually called a Money tree and it provides fast and easy Bells.
As the name suggests, the Money tree is, well a tree. And as such, you must plant it in order for it to grow. But you won’t be planting any seeds; instead, you’ll plant Bells. In return, the tree will produce three bags of Bells.
Sound a little confusing? It’s actually not. Here’s how the Money tree works in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The first step in planting a Money tree is to find a glowing gold spot on your island. When you dig up that spot, you’ll receive 1,000 Bells. You can either drop the Bell bag back into the hole and bury to grow a Money tree for a small return, or you can wait and bury more Bells for an even greater return. It’s recommended that you bury at least 10,000 Bells for the best rate of return.

The Money tree spot will remain in that area for the entirety of the day, so you don’t need to plant Bells immediately. Return to it when you have an adequate amount.
Once you bury the Bells, you’ll see a little sprout pop up. This confirms that you’ve successfully planted the Money tree, but you’ll have to wait until it grows to its full size. Wait a few days and then return to the tree where you can shake down the tree and get your Bells.
Planting 10,000 Bells will earn you 30,000 Bells from the tree, which seems to be the best return. Your Money tree will still grow without planting that many Bells, but you’ll get significantly less in return.

There’s currently speculation over whether you should bury more than the 10,000 Bells. Some players claim that burying 99,000 Bells will yield three bags of 99,000, although there are mixed reports. Polygon, for example, says “planting more than 10,000 Bells doesn’t guarantee a return greater than 30,000.”
