Marvel’s Avengers is easily one of 2020’s biggest games and fans of Earth’s Mightiest have a lot to look forward to with Crystal Dynamics’ blockbuster.

After nearly 2 years of anticipation, Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers — developed by Crystal Dynamics is set to be released next year. With its own original story created to differ from the comics and Marvel Cinematic Universe, an abundance of different costumes for each hero, killer graphics and a host of amazing features, the game is shaping up to be a massive blockbuster hit.

Perhaps one of the biggest key factors for Marvel’s Avengers is its campaign. It’s important to note that while Avengers is both a single and multiplayer game, its main campaign will be single-player only.  Gamers can expect that the mode will come with all the bells and whistles, including unlockables, side missions, etc.

With that being stated, this doesn’t mean the game’s single-player campaign won’t play a part in making multiplayer more enjoyable for gamers. During an interview with EPN, Crystal Dynamic’s Scott Amos made that clear.

"“You’ve seen what we’ve done for Tomb Raider and how our worlds have expanded where we have very specific levels that are designed as a campaign/story/cinematic moment of like, yes, we want you to go on a very specific path to land a beat and a character-driven narrative. So for us, that one particularly, is that we want you on the action, in the action as the heroes of those moments, but that’s just the beginning. There is a bespoke campaign, there are specific missions you play as specific characters a specific way, but then as you unlock those characters, branches open and now I can start doing everything from ‘I’m going to take this character and go play for a while just as this character, I’m going to take Ironman and do his own arc.’ Those missions are playable on multiplayer as well. So while you’re on that single-player campaign, you can go off on these branches and say ‘hey, you have your Hulk unlocked? Come with me. Let’s go play this together.'”"

The story of Marvel’s Avengers is completely original and follows our heroes after the events of A-Day, an event celebrating the unveiling of a second Avengers headquarters in San Francisco. However, a catastrophic incident unfolds, resulting in the city being destroyed and the death (maybe?) of Captain America.

Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers are disbanded and superheroes are outlawed, leading to the rise of A.I.M. As we learned in recent trailers, Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, uncovers a massive conspiracy and seeks to reassembled Earth’s Mightiest.

Beyond the campaign, Marvel’s Avengers features a rather robust customization system that not only includes hundreds of outfits inspired by Marvel’s vast lore but also items and that customize your playstyle. Perks, skills and abilities will allow you to build your heroes to your liking. All of this and more were shown off in the recent game overview for Marvel’s Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengers is scheduled to be released for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on May 15, 2020.
