Pokemon Red and Blue: The 5 coolest Pokemon from gen 1

facebooktwitterreddit

Here is a list of the top five coolest Pokemon from the original games, Pokemon Red and Blue, and the reasons that they are the coolest.

Pokemon Red and Blue were the first games released in America, and I still remember playing these games when I was a little kid. The games filled kids and adults with wonder, and set the foundations for the franchise we know and love today. The only disappointing part about choosing the five coolest Pokemon from the first generation is the fact that I can only choose five, but here are the five that I chose.

5. Dragonite

Dragonite was the first fully evolved dragon-type Pokemon in the franchise, and it remains one of the strongest and most majestic dragons out there. Back in generation one, there were no dragon-type moves other than Dragon Rage, which always does 40 damage. This Pokemon was still powerful, making use of the move Hyper Beam. This is the final Pokemon Lance uses, the last member of the Elite Four.

4. Eevee

The “evolution” Pokemon is one of the most unique Pokemon to this day. In Pokemon Red and Blue, Eevee could evolve into three different Pokemon. Since then, it has gotten five more evolutions. The player must evolve Eevee in different ways to get the desired evolution. It would eventually go on to appear as a starter in the generation one remake, Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee. This Pokemon also wins my award for being the cutest from this generation.

3. Mewtwo

This is the original bad boy, the villain of the original Pokemon movie, and the main legendary Pokemon in the first generation. Mewtwo is a clone of the Pokemon Mew, but during the cloning scientists lost control of the experiment and the Pokemon broke loose. This Pokemon is one of two that would later receive two mega-evolutions in generation six, and will appear in the movie Detective Pikachu in May. It is also central to the plot of Pokken Tournament DX and it appears in Super Smash Bros.

2. Pikachu

This electric mouse is easily the most recognizable Pokemon in the franchise. Even people who have no interest in Pokemon will recognize this electric mouse. It has served as the unofficial face of the franchise for as long as I can remember. Pikachu is also the beloved partner of Ash, the protagonist in the animated television series. This Pokemon is even getting a movie dedicated to it, and being voiced by Ryan Reynolds. While Pikachu is not the most unique or powerful Pokemon, its level of recognition alone warrants a top spot on this list.

1. Charizard

Charizard is almost as recognizable as Pikachu as far as Pokemon go. The fire/flying-type Pokemon has a dragon-like appearance that has always been a fan favorite. It appears as another of Ash’s Pokemon in the anime, it has one of the most valuable Pokemon cards, it appears on the cover of Pokemon Red and Fire Red, it is one of the two Pokemon to receive two mega-evolutions, it appears in Super Smash Bros, and it will appear in the movie Detective Pikachu. This Pokemon has a prestigious resume, and continues to be one of the most recognized and loved Pokemon in the franchise.
