Xbox Games with Gold February 2019: Bloodstained, Assassin’s Creed Rogue and more
February 2019’s Games with Gold lineup delivers Xbox LIVE Gold members our first good Star Wars game in years.
Microsoft kicked off 2019 in a strong way with an Xbox Games with Gold lineup that included 2018 Game of the Year nominee Celeste for the month of January. How do you top that sort of giveaway?
You give gamers something we haven’t had in quite some while – a good Star Wars game. While it’s not the headline of February’s Games with Gold lineup, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy will be featured among other titles. And given the Star Wars drought we are currently in, it’s the game I’m most looking forward to being free next month.
Never would I have imagined that in 2019 I would be celebrating a free original Xbox title from 2003 as part of Games with Gold. But two disappointing Star Wars Battlefront games from EA later, and here we are.
To be fair, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy was a fairly well-received game upon its release and has a very favorable user score on Metacritic. I’m not saying it’s the best Star Wars game ever created; but, it’s certainly better than anything we’ve had in recent years.
If anything, it’s inclusion in next month’s Games with Gold will give those who are young enough to have only experienced EA’s Battlefront games a chance to see what a Star Wars game used to be. Developed by Raven Software and published by LucasArts, Jedi Academy is set in the expanded universe and sees you take on the role of a force-wielding student of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.
That’s not all though. Next month’s Games with Gold lineup will kick off with Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, a retro-style action-adventure inspired by classic side-scrollers. Man, between Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Bloodstained, February is going to feel like a blast from the past.
Also free will be Super Bomberman R. This game looks like a fun little romp as you head to space to take down the Evil Emporer Buggler. As a fun little extra, Master Chief is included in this Xbox One version of the game.

Rounding out February’s lineup is Assassin’s Creed Rogue, the seventh major installment in the popular action-adventure series from Ubisoft and a sequel to 2013’s Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. The game received mixed-mostly positive reviews upon release, so it’s probably worth checking out.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon will be available from February 1 through February 28, while Super Bomberman R will be free from February 16 to March 15. Both will be for the Xbox One.
Assassin’s Creed Rogue will be free for the first half of month, February 1 through February 15, on Xbox One and Xbox 360. Closing out February will be Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy which will be free from the February 16 through February 28 for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.
