For the second year in a row, I feel like The Game Awards got Sports Game of the Year wrong. Last year, EA Sports FC 25 got it and almost nobody in the player base knew what they were talking about. FC 26 actually deserved this honor and didn't get it. It excels in many areas, not the least of which is giving us reasons to log back in. Last month, I told you that logging in would get you a Classic XI hero that would later upgrade to a Team of The Year Honorable Mention player.
Lo and behold, the time of that upgrade is here. You didn't have to do anything other than log in to get an 88 overall, now all you have to do is log in and that same player becomes a 90 overall with all the attribute upgrades that entails.
There are so many little touches that show how well EA Sports FC has mastered this Ultimate Team thing. Opening packs and evolving players is every bit as much as fun as playing the game. Arguably more so if you play online, it gets really, really sweaty in those competitive modes.
The Team of the Year voting just finished, so soon we will see some of the game's most popular and powerful cards drop. It's just a fun, fun time in the game with an Oscars-like feel. That is, if you got to build a team of your favorite actors and then played them online against other actors and their studios. Wait, could we get that game, somebody?
