On Jan. 30, 2025, days after World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) Monday Night Raw on Netflix debuted on Jan. 6, 2025, WWE released an announcement video with former WWE World Champion CM Punk announcing that WWE and 2K games would bring “WWE2K Netflix” to mobile platforms in Fall 2025.
That announcement was 7 months ago, and after numerous game announcement events, including Summer Games Fest, Netflix, WWE, and 2K Games, they have yet to release any news or gameplay footage about one of Netflix’s anticipated games.
WWE2K Netflix is supposed to be a part of Netflix Games, where they port big indie titles and certain triple-A games to mobile, giving the games new life as well as adapting certain Netflix shows and movies into games like Stranger Things.
Some indie titles brought to Netflix Games included Hades, Storyteller, Twelve Minutes (starring James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe), OxenFree 1 & 2, Farming Simulator and Football Manager 2024 Mobile.
This would also be Netflix’s second time bringing a Take-Two Interactive game to the platform, as they brought Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition to the streaming service.
With Netflix’s announcement, this would also be 2K Games' second try at making a WWE mobile game, as with the release of WWE 2K15 in 2014, they would release WWE2K Mobile, and just like its console brother, both games failed.
Though that didn’t stop 2K and WWE from releasing mobile games separately from one another, as WWE would team up with other game studios to release multiple mobile WWE games like a fighting game inspired by the mobile verisons of Injustice and Mortal Kombat “WWE Immortals” with NetherRealm studios, a Puzzle fighting game, “WWE Champions” with Scopely, Inc. and a card game, “WWE SuperCard” with 2K.
Though on 2K’s side, they have been experimenting with porting one of their staple sports games to mobile for a while, which was NBA2K.
They started with NBA 2K23 with Apple Arcade, and it wasn’t until NBA 2K24 that they fully tried making a free port with NBA 2k24 MyTEAM.
They were able to bring the MyTEAM console experience to mobile and bring the classic NBA 2K feel to the game because they added cross-platform progression into NBA 2K MyTEAM.
With the release, they got an average of 4.7 stars on the IOS App Store and 4.6 on the Google Play Store.
With the success of the mobile port, they decided to make it a yearly release in tandem with the console releases.
It’s no surprise that 2K would try to do the same with their second biggest sports game, WWE2K, with Netflix Games.
Though without any news, gameplay or trailer, it’s hard to speculate if 2K can bring the same quality of the WWE2K games to the world of mobile gaming, even with the success of NBA 2K MyTEAM
