Masters Toronto is a week away and is the second major event for this Valorant championship tour (VCT) season, and the teams representing VCT Americas are G2 Esports, Sentinels and Made In Brazil (MIBR).
The format of the event is a two-stage competition, the first half being the Swiss stage and the second stage being the playoffs.
The four international winners of VCT Stage 1 are given a bye, while the other 8 teams that qualified will have to climb the mountain in best-of-three matches.
If teams win twice, they will advance to the playoffs, but if they lose twice, they are eliminated from the Masters Toronto.
G2 Esports and Sentinels are expected, as they have been consistently one of the better teams in the Americas region, but it is an underdog story for MIBR, as this is their first ever VCT Major in the team's history.
With those three teams getting ready to head to the north, who has the better chance of winning the whole event?
G2 Esports
They have the biggest advantage in this competition as they have a bye into the playoffs, a reward for winning the Americas stage 1 finals.
They are the first back-to-back winners in the Americas and have reached the top of a major before in Bangkok and became runner-up to T1 from VCT Pacific.
If they were to win, it would solidify their place in VCT Americas as the best team in Valorant, as they have dominated Americas since the start of the season, and a major event win would put them at the mountaintop of their region.
The key player to look out for is Trent, especially in late-round scenarios where he can clutch up for his team when they are down a few members.
He is a player teams have to be careful with in post-plant situations.
Out of the 20 games this season, Trent had the most match MVP totals, coming out on top with 10 most totals according to VLR.gg.
After 20 games, Trent has averaged 47.9 kills, 37.2 deaths, and 19.2 assists totals.
He is the key initiator of the team, constantly looking for info for his team, which is why he has almost 20 assists total each game, his most used agent is Tejo and Sova, but with nerf changes to Tejo this past update on May 13, 2025, so we will see how it will affect Trent's gameplay moving forward.
Though G2 Esports has an advantage, what would that mean for Sentinels and MIBR?
Sentinels
Sentinels are looking for redemption as they are back on the Swiss stage this season.
During the first master's event in Bangkok, they were immediately eliminated, losing to DRX and Team Liquid.
Now, as they enter the Master's Toronto, they look to make a longer run than last time and to make it to the playoffs.
Their last VCT Masters win was last season in Madrid, where the team had a resurgence as they tried to bring gold back to the team and for Tenz, as he was retiring after the season.
Now with Tenz out and Sacy joining MIBR as a content creator, the team brought in N4RRATE and Bang to fill in those spots.
Throughout their 16-game season, the team evenly had team match MVPs spread with each player, with Johnqt, N4RRATE and Bang having three and Zellsis having two, but the key player on the team with the most is Zekken with 5.
Zekken averages around a total of 49.7 Kills, 42.9 Deaths and 13.3 Assists.
In his own right, he is also a clutch player for Sentinels with his main agents being Yoru, Jett and Neon.
He is the main aggressor for the team, always looking for picks, though he dies a lot, the damage he dishes out helps his teammates clean up as he averages 13 assists total per game.
If Sentinels were to win, they would return to the mountaintop of Valorant and would bring their VCT Masters wins to three, and would have the most masters wins in VCT.
MIBR
The most interesting story is Made In Brazil (MIBR), as for the first time in their VCT teams' history, they qualified for VCT Masters Toronto by placing third in the Americas.
They've undergone a significant rebuild this season, adding four new players and welcoming back Artzin.
They have the ultimate underdog story, from no Majors to finally making it to Masters Toronto.
Their next challenge is the Swiss stage, as they have to battle VCT Masters Bangkok’s champions, GenG.
The main player they will have to rely on is Aspas.
Aspas is a former VCT Champion and has made it to the championship stage with Levietan and Loud before joining MIBR, and he has had a huge effect on the team since joining.
Out of all 15 games, Aspas has been match MVP 8 times and as the team's Duelist, he averages a total of 51 Kills, 37.6 deaths and 7.8 assists.
He is probably the most effective Duelist in the Americas, with his main agents being Jett and Neon.
This makes Toronto the team's proving ground as they will have to prove to fans that they can win.
With 8 teams fighting for a spot in the playoff stage, only 4 will make it into the playoffs, and only 1 can become the master of Toronto.
To truly know who in VCT Americas can come out on top, we will have to wait and see as the Swiss stage starts on June 7 where Team Heretics from EMEA takes on Paper Rex from Pacific at noon and Bilibili Gaming from China takes on Team Liquid from EMEA at 3 P.M.
