Look, folks, I know Xbox's price is out of whack, but please don't steal them. The Laredo Morning Times reports on a case of two men who stole an Xbox from a retail store. It took a while to track them down, but surveillance footage eventually helped crack the case.

The theft occurred on July 18, when the camera captured them entering the electronic section of a Laredo retail store. One forced open a glass case while the other removed the Xbox. In July, it was only valued at $428. Obviously, with Microsoft's bizarre late-stage console price hike, that might be a different number now. The camera captured the theft, and also the two suspects fleeing the scene in a Chevrolet Silverado.

The store's asset protection department notified the Laredo Police Department on July 21. The suspects apparently have a pretty lengthy record of run-ins with the police, leading to their September 15 arrest. They were charged with theft of property, a class B misdemeanor. One suspect was able to bail out immediately, but the other had some outstanding drug warrants and, as of Sept. 30, was still in custody.

According to law enforcement statistics, electronics are among the most commonly stolen retail items because of the profit margin and the size of smaller items such as phones making them easier to sneak out of buildings. In 2023, a man stole 50 iPhones from a California Apple Store at a value of almost $50,000.

You don't want to ruin your life and your community standing over an Xbox, trust me.
