Wrestling insider Dave Meltzer has confirmed thatTravis Scott was supposed to be WWE 2K25's special DLC celebrity guest. In the Wrestling Observer newsletter, Meltzer said WWE and the rapper have had a full falling out.
Scott was heavily involved in programming during Wrestlemania 41, at which he helped John Cena betray Cody Rhodes. Scott gave Rhodes a black eye by accident, leading to some unintentional heat backstage. Former WWE superstar Bully Ray threatened to slap him if he ever runs into him.
Fans had long suspected Scott was the celebrity guest planned for the May 14 New Wave Pack. After the DLC launched with no celebrity, 2K said WWE wanted to announce the guest and would do so later. Another DLC came and went before 2K announced that the celebrity guest will be replaced by El Grande Americano in September.
This would explain the sudden pivot. Scott was all over WWE programming for a while, and was heavily involved in the infamous John Cena heel turn. But one day they just stopped talking about it. The Rock was also involved in the turn, but he's been absent recently too. Whatever the company's plans were for Travis Scott, it doesn't look like they're happening anymore.
I don't think too many fans were clamoring for Scott's inclusion to begin with, but people are upset they paid for something they didn't get. El Grande Americano could have easily been included in May and would have been more exciting than Scott anyway.
For those scoring at home, this is the second year in a row one of WWE 2K's DLCs has blown up in its face. Last year, Pat McAfee and his co-hosts were featured in a DLC almost no one wanted, and one of them stopped to insult wrestling fans along the way.
