There are many unforgettable quests in Old School RuneScape (OSRS), including many that existed on the August 2007 servers that the game was based on when it was released in February 2013, plus many that have been released since, quests that are not available in RuneScape 3.

To date, there are 170 OSRS quests, a list that dates back to when the initial RuneScape game was released in January 2001.

Which are the most iconic? Considering a number of important factors, we did our best to rank the top 10.

No. 10 - Monkey Madness II

With classic options such as Fremennik Trials and Lunar Diplomacy available, I didn’t necessarily want to include a sequel (or any new post-OSRS release addition, for that matter) on this list, but given the fact that Monkey Madness II was the first quest to be released specifically for OSRS, more than three years after the game itself came out, it deserves its spot here.

Before the game was released in February 2013, there was a poll to decide just how much investment there would be in it, if it were to indeed exist.

The 449,351-vote tally fell shy of the 500,000 total needed for there to be an “additional dedicated development team”, so there were questions as to whether or not there would indeed be more quests added to the game, beyond the 127 that already existed by simply having been included in RuneScape as it existed before August 10, 2007.

Monkey Madness II opened up the floodgates, as there are now 170 quests in the game, and it was a barnburner of a quest, easily the hardest of its time. Developers jumped right into the deep end, with the sequel to the iconic Monkey Madness adventure being the game’s first ever Grandmaster quest.

From the elaborate Kruk’s Dungeon to the much-feared air platform stealth section to the Glough boss fight, including the pre-boss fight with the Demonic Gorillas, this quest solidified the desire of the developers and the growing player base to enhance Old School RuneScape over the long haul. And that’s something we can all be thankful for.
