It usually takes a couple of weeks for somebody to completely ruin EA Sports FC's in game economy. This year, we didn't make it out of launch week. A glitch allowed players in Indonesia to buy the game's largest point pack, which should cost more than $100 US, for around $1.

Once word got out, people began using VPNs to trick the game into selling them points at the ridiculous discount. This unleashed a swath of severely overpowered teams at launch, ruining the experience for anyone playing fair who might have run into these god squads. The VPN seems to only have worked with Apple Pay, so turning off crossplay may be a solution.

It's an accidental win for players on Nintendo's consoles, as the Switch and Switch 2 versions of FC 26 do not support crossplay. At this point, I'd advise anybody playing Ultimate Team on console to consider turning crossplay off for the next few days until EA sorts this mess out.

Ultimate Team and similar modes have become a billion-dollar business for game publishers. Anywhere a lot of money is involved, there will inevitably be a lot of crime. Now EA Sports is tasked with figuring out how to stop in-game glitches that are unfun and financial glitches that are just plain illegal. Its results have been mixed.

A Dexterto investigation into FC 25 found hackers using numerous exploits to earn multiple copies of the game's best rewards in hours and then swapping the coins back and forth between burner accounts.

Now with this launch exploit, hacking isn't even required for many players. It's going to be a long year of EA Sports FC 26, folks.
