As a tale of four mutated outcasts fighting evil for a world that doesn't appreciate them, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were born to be video game characters. Their pedigree includes of the best games ever, and 2023's TMNT: Splintered Fate has earned its place in that lineage. After earning rave reviews on Apple Arcade, it is now available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. As a special treat for these new players, the Casey Jones and the Junkyard Jam DLC will be free until June 3.
This project is a labor of love for Super Evil Megacorp, who partnered with Paramount Studios for a Turtles vision inspired by its Nickelodeon cartoons. Tom Waltz, a writer on IDW's Ninja Turtles, added his expertise as well. The extra creative input yielded a game more mature than the 80s toons, but not quite as dark as the IDW comics.
In an interview with Games Industry.biz, Super Evil's Director of Product Management Tom Westall explained they want to bring something unique to each platform the game appears on. For its July 2024 Nintendo Switch release, the team put a lot of effort into creating the kind of couch co-op experience us veteran players grew up on.
PlayStation players will get the Casey Jones-centric DLC, ordinarily $6.99, for free. Casey's hockey stick gives him great range to battle enemies and he can also launch a hockey puck at his enemies. His special applies Guard Break to enemies, so Casey is a great aggressive character. His DLC adds to the game's story and sees him battling the Punk Frogs, a group of amphibian anarchists with evil plans for the city of New York.
For fans that still love to collect the physical editions of their favorite games, they will arrive for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch August 26. Digital Xbox versions arrive June 24, 2025.
