More than a few veteran card floppers thought Eevee Grove's Sylveon might be a problem, and the results from its first big tourney confirm they were right. Pokémon Pocket content creator Ursiiday's Pocket Weekly tournament took place on June 28, and Sylveon appeared in four of the top five decks. It had a win rate of nearly 60 percent.

Sylveon is a respectable fighter at Stage 1 with 140 HP and a 70 damage attack for one Psychic Energy and one Colorless. But its true power lies in its Happy Ribbon ability, which allows you to draw two cards when played from hand to evolve an existing Pokémon. As this video explains, it's not uncommon to be able to draw 7 or 8 cards in one turn with Sylveon. Pulling a stunt like that with a 20-card deck is the kind of consistency that wins games.

The Eevee Grove expansion for the Pokemon Pocket TCG is based on the versatile Eevee's many evolutions: Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon, Sylveon, and Leafeon. The expansion launched June 26 and adds over 100 cards to the wildly popular mobile version of the beloved card game.

I've been catching them all for decades now, and with the option to play Pokemon on my phone? There's just no escaping it. After all, what could be more thematic than catching Pokemon and storing them in a little device that you keep in your pocket? I feel just like Ash, until my wife makes me stop singing the theme song at the dinner table.
