It's hard to believe it's been three years since I first covered Starship Troopers: Terran Command. I always believed the blustery military future brought forth by this universe would make an excellent RTS. Slitherine had the same idea, and in June 2022, we saw the vision. Now Slitherine is announcing the game's biggest update yet, for the low, low price of free.
Territory Mode tasks players with defending three separate planets, taking on the bugs in an unscripted conflict that can unfold in any number of ways. Marco Alessandro Minoli, Slitherine's publishing director, expounds further.
"The release of Territory Mode is a clear statement: Slitherine is not just launching games, we are committing to their long-term support and evolution, with passion and dedication,” Minoli said. “Starship Troopers: Terran Command has always been a key part of the recent RTS resurgence, and this 'Version 2.0' update shows we are dedicated to making it the definitive action-strategy title."
"This philosophy extends across our entire successful RTS lineup, including games like Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance and the 2025 blockbuster Broken Arrow. Slitherine has truly become the essential home for all RTS enthusiasts, and our continuous free support is how we repay the passion of this community. We are here to ensure that the genre thrives."
The update will also add Battle Groups, which function like customizable factions with their own tactical options. The Groups at launch are as follows:
- Ground Pounders: Hardened veterans of the brutal desert war on Kwalasha.
- Hell Raisers: Fearless mercenaries operating on behalf of the Federation.
- Peacekeepers: The Federation's elite military police.
Each Battle Group has its own technologies, which players must find and unlock in battle to gain benefits, including enhanced unit performance, new unit types, or new abilities in combat. The game backlog grows huge at this time of year, but man, I am excited for this. If it piqued your interest, Starship Troopers: Terran Command will be on sale for 45 percent off until Oct. 28.
