Star Wars fans love Cal Kestis, the hero of Star Wars: Jedi and Star Wars: Survivor. They've been wanting him to appear in other parts of the massive Star Wars media universe, and they're finally getting their wish - kind of.
Kestis will appear in Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy - Pieces of the Past, a special that will air on Disney Plus Sept. 19. As with most Lego projects, Kestis will appear in an all-star cast that includes C-3PO, Darth Maul, Ahsoka Tano, and yes, Darth Jar Jar.
Turning the bumbling Gungan into a Sith Lord has become a meme because it explains why the frustrated Jedi didn't just leave him in a swamp somewhere. Kinda like Gilligan, for our readers old enough to get that reference. Gaming has leaned fully into the meme, as we recently saw Darth Jar Jar as a character in Fortnite's recent Star Wars Season.
There's something glorious about seeing the joke character become a diabolical Sith Lord, and gaming is a place where it's OK to do that. Lego TV shows are another. They're a wonderful playground to explore things you could never do in a mainline Star Wars show, and the same applies to video games. That's why the Lego games are so much fun.
Making this special even better, Cameron Monaghan, the actor who voices Cal Kestis, will do so in the animated version as well. And hey, if this appearance goes well, who knows where else Cal Kestis might turn up in the huge Star Wars galaxy?
