It's well-known that Snoop Dogg is an avid Madden NFL player. That said, I don't know how many players were looking forward to using him in Madden Ultimate Team. The response on social media is mostly unfavorable.
You know what I always say, give me as many celebrities that never played in the NFL as possible in MUT!

EA please do the hard things and make your game better instead of trying to sell us on fake hype.

As a denizen of the internet, I'm well aware that the complainers speak the loudest. But other than a small Venn diagram of Snoop Dogg super fans and people who really love Ultimate Team, it's hard to imagine who is hyped enough about this to pay real money.
Snoop is part of the "Reel Deals" MUT program, which features players with Hollywood ties. Previous inclusions were Roman Reigns, who did play football before becoming WWE's Tribal Chief, and Burt Reynolds, who played at Florida State before becoming the biggest movie star in the world. Snoop has played a football player in a movie, which is enough for EA's standards, it seems.
As you can see from the card art here, there's a version of the 6'4, 192 lb. while dripping wet and wearing boots rapper that plays middle linebacker. For those who don't play the mode, you build your own team from cards depicting NFL players (and apparently some celebrities). We're in MUT's endgame now, so it gets ridiculous.
After all, there are only so many versions of Cam Newton you can sell players over the course of 12 months. Now we have cards such as 346 lb. Dontari Poe at quarterback, where he is insanely fast and throws perfect passes. There is a running back version of nearly 400 lb. nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat that breaks defenders' ankles. In fairness, it's based on a run that did happen, albeit only once.
These cards can be good in spite of their physical attributes because card abilities have taken on huge importance. The best cards in the game have abilities allowing runners to do defender freezing spin moves, or cornerback to jump passing routes with psychic levels of premonition. I haven't seen Snoop's ability stack yet, but I'm sure they'll hook him up.
The good news? For everybody who loved arcade titles such as NFL Street, MUT in summer is probably as close to that as EA will ever get again. The bad news? It's tied to the eternally money-grubbing Ultimate Team economy. With everything I'm hearing indicating the NFL and EA will continue what has been an immensely profitable marriage, nothing is changing anytime soon.
