Roblox's worst stretch ever continues as Chris Hansen begins investigation

Roblox has recently begun taking steps to remove people that are doing Chris Hansen-style sting operations on the platform. Now, the signal has been sent up, and the real Chris Hansen has announced he's working on a documentary about child abuse on the gaming platform.

And yes, he's working with Schep, who Roblox recently banned from the platform for conducting his own sting operations. Schlep, who said he began this crusade after someone on Roblox groomed him, has also enlisted the help of California Rep. Ro Khanna.

A 10-year-old girl from Khanna's state was kidnapped by a man she met while playing Roblox. Her parents are suing both Roblox and Discord, where the pair exchanged messages before the kidnapping.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is suing Roblox, alleging it has failed to keep minors safe on the platform.

"Today I’m suing Roblox - the #1 gaming site for children and teens – and a breeding ground for sex predators," Murrill said."Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana. Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety. Every parent should be aware of the clear and present danger posed to their children by Roblox so they can prevent the unthinkable from ever happening in their own home."

Roblox's stock dropped by nearly 7 percent after Murrill's announcement. The company has responded to the mounting pile of allegations and investigations.

"Any assertion that Roblox would intentionally put our users at risk of exploitation is simply untrue," the company said in a statement. "No system is perfect, and bad actors adapt to evade detection."

"At Roblox, we are constantly innovating safety tools and launching new safeguards," it said. "In the past year, Roblox has introduced over 40 new features to protect its youngest users and empower parents and caregivers with greater control, including updated parental controls, stricter defaults for users under 13, and new content maturity labels."
