The Simpsons have appeared in so many video games, spanning many consoles and genres. Many of these games have gotten releases on Nintendo consoles, such as The Simpsons: Hit and Run on the Gamecube. The Nintendo Switch has been no stranger to retro games, going as far back as certain arcade classics, with a notable exception: The Simpsons Game.
Not to be confused with the 2007 game of the same name, The Simpsons Game is an arcade beat-em-up, released in 1991. The game was great, being one of the best beat-em-ups of all time, inspiring so many games in the genre. Games like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which has fond its way to the Nintendo Switch, owe a lot to The Simpsons Game.
The Simpsons Game would be perfect for a Nintendo Switch release. While it has had releases on platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation, and Ios since its original release, it has not found its way to a Nintendo console. The Switch is a haven of retro gaming, with the Nintendo Switch Online service having games from many consoles and publishers available for subscribers.
The Simpsons Game belongs on the Switch, it is a perfect game for handheld or couch multiplayer, specialties of the system. The game has always been playable for up to four players, with a control scheme that could easily be accessed by a single Joy Con turned on its side. The fast paced gameplay and ability to speedrun fit perfectly with so many of the games on Switch, and in Nintendo's own lineup of classic games.
The Nintendo Switch boasts a line up of great games from the past and present which share similarities to The Simpsons Game. The fast paced nature of the game and the many locations of Springfield the game explores would be perfect for a couch multiplayer of on the go experience. The Nintendo Switch and The Simpsons have long been due for a meeting, with one perfect oppurtunity in front of them.
