TFT Patch 14.2 preview: Karthus is getting a major rework
After a lengthy holiday break, Riot Games is back on track and releasing patches for TFT: Remix Rumble in regular cadence.
Following the major Patch 14.1 that released last week, Riot is now working on Patch 14.2. While we're still a little less than a week out from it, Gameplay Director Stephen Mortimer, aka Mortdog, has started to preview some of the changes.
Mortimer acknowledged that Patch 14.2 will be a "relatively small" one, focusing on a "few adjustments to clean things up." He compared the update to the pre-Vegas patch which saw just a few balance changes. That doesn't mean the changes won't be significant though.
Patch 14.2 will feature three champion reworks. Kayle, Karthus and Urgot will all be getting some form of rework or balance adjustment.
Karthus is getting the biggest change in Patch 14.2
Of the three champions, Mort highlighted, Karthus is said to be getting the biggest change. As of Patch 14.1, Karthus is now considered to be one of the stronger champions. His ability to blast your backline carries with a single shot is, well, a bit overpowered.
"No one enjoys starting the fight, only to have your carry die 5 seconds later to a Karthus crit because they got a lucky crit," Mortimer stated. "For a champ like this, too much power is in that first cast."
So what's Riot doing to address the issue? Well, turns out a lot. Here are the changes being made to Karthus in Patch 14.2:
- No mana on kill
- Damage way down
- Spell will always crit if it can (if you pair Karthus with any other executioner, he will always crit)
- Crit converts to AP
- Gain 30 AP each cast
The goal with these changes is to tone down the initial power of Karthus. He'll now need to cast a couple of times before he becomes a true monster. Although he'll be weaker during the first 10 seconds or so of a fight, he'll become more and more powerful as the fight goes on.
TFT: Remix Rumble's Patch 14.2 arrives on January 24.
