TFT: Remix Rumble marked the end of Teamfight Tactics' mid-set updates. Rather than having a six month set with a mid-set update introducing some new champions and traits, Riot has decided to instead focus on releasing three new sets per year.

Part of this change in strategy also includes the revival of previous sets. As Teamfight Tactics is now approaching its fifth year anniversary, the game has changed quite a bit since when it first launched.

There are all-new mechanics — portals, augments, etc. — that simply weren't around when the game was first released. So what would happen if these new mechanics existed alongside these older sets? We're about to find out!

When does TFT: Galaxies go live?

TFT: Galaxies, the third set ever for Teamfight Tactics, is returning. Currently playable on the PBE, the set will officially launch with Patch 14.02 on January 24, 2024.

This will be a temporary game mode running during the Lunar Festival event alongside the current set. It will only stay around until the end of Patch 14.03, which concludes on February 20th.

What's new with TFT: Galaxies?

Everything you loved with TFT: Galaxies will be returning. As this was the first set to introduces Portals (at the tiem called Galaxies), this will naturally exist within the revival. Some classic Galaxies will be returning as Portals, including The Neekoverse, Plunder Planet and more. These will exist alongside some of current Portals part of Remix Rumble.

When TFT: Galaxies was live, we didn't yet have Augments. What will it be like to play your favorite champions and comps with Augments? You'll be able to find out!

While the Galaxies core set mechanics and items are returning, Riot is keeping some of the more modern systems in place, such as champion drop percentages, champion bag sizes, leveling costs, item inventory, etc. The only major change with Galaxies is to champion bag sies; each champion will now have 50 total copies in the pool, reducing impact for contested champions. As this is more of a fun mode, Riot wants players to enjoy their favorite comps when they want without the frustration of being contested.

Additionally, nearly all 3-star 5-cost abilities have been updated to become more powerful. Riot realized that original 3-star 5-cost abilities are not as the power level as modern 5-cost units.

Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies, aka Return to the Stars, will go live with Patch 14.02 on January 24. Its's currently live on the PBE.
