Remembering Marvel's excellent past video games

Despite Marvel's current success with the MCU, their gaming department seems to focus on tired mobile games that seem to push story towards tired past stories and microtransactions. But Marvel used to have some of the BEST games. Here's a look back at some of the more creative ones.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 2021 - Square Enix

Okay, listen, 2021 BARELY qualifies as the past but we need to talk about this game. This game is 100% incredible. I love it so much. It's gorgeous, fun, and uses a ton of rarely seen Marvel characters. It was made by a slew of people that love the Guardians of the Galaxy books and wanted to work in as many characters rarely seen in media into it. You even get to see Cosmo puppies.

While the game only allowed you to play as Star-Lord you were CONSTANTLY interacting with your team. Quips every minute or so, team up attacks, dialogue branches. It was so cool. Not to mention the fact that the game features one of the best soundtracks Guardians of the Galaxy ever received.

The only thing I don't like about this game is that at the end it leads into what might be the potentially coolest sequel ever but I know that, much like the incredible Transformers: Devastation (which also teased an amazing sequel and never got it) because this game didn't meet Square's sales expectations we will NEVER see a sequel.

Long story short, maybe if I remind enough people this game exists they'll play it digitally and something will happen. Knock on Groot.
