The Most Valuable Charizard Cards Of All Time

3. Shadowless Charizard – Holofoil

Set: Base Set

Market Price: $878.87

Here it is, the iconic Shadowless Charizard Holo card from the second-ever printing of the TCG’s Base Set. While, of course, the first edition version is the card that truly demands a premium on the secondary market, the non-first edition version is no slouch in the value department either.

While pretty much any condition of this card will require many hundreds of dollars to acquire, if you can get this card graded out at 9, 9.5 or especially 10 by professional grading services, you’ll likely be able to put a down payment on a house after selling it. As it is, this card’s median price of just under $900 is pretty fiery.

2. Charizard Star (Delta Species) – Holofoil

Set: Dragon Frontiers

Market Price: $1,402.80

Charizard Star (Delta Species), from 2006’s fascinating Dragon Frontiers set slots in as the second-most valuable Charizard card of all time. Much like the aforementioned Crystal Guardians, the Dragon Frontiers set saw all Pokemon cards become type-shifted. For instance, Tropius was a metal type, Gligar was a lightning type and Milotic a fire type.

In Charizard Star’s case, its Delta typing was Dark – a popular alternate type for ‘Zard that has come full circle thanks to its dominance in the current Standard metagame after 2024’s Paldean Fates Charizard ex printing. This Delta Species Charizard was included as a “Rare Holo Star” in Dragon Frontiers packs, and only one “star” ‘mon card could be included in any deck you built.

With astonishing art from Masakazu Fukuda that is literally too good to stay in the art box and supreme scarcity, it’s no wonder this card’s median value is well over $1000.

1. Charizard – Holofoil

Set: Skyridge

Market Price:  $1,544.91 (via PriceCharting.com)

A card so rare that TCGPlayer doesn’t even have data related to its sale price – though the most recent ones top out at over $3,000, to be fair – this is the most valuable Charizard card of all time.

As the only ‘Zard card with the normal typing, it’s no wonder that this card retains an immensely high price on the second market over 20 years after it released in 2003’s Skyridge expansion. Of course, this card’s unusual Poké-BODY: Crystal Type allowed it to change its type depending on what energy card was attached to it last.

Combine those intriguing attributes with two strong attacks (for the time, at least), a glistening, gossamer foiling treatment and bold, bright artwork from Kouki Saitou – and there’s no surprise that this card serves as the most valuable Charizard around.
