Pokemon TCG: 18 Most Valuable Charizard Cards
By Chris Guest
Charizard Cards Worth Between $400 and $600
10. Charizard GX – Holofoil
Set: Hidden Fates: Shiny Vault
Market Price: $404.71
Released as part of the Shiny Vault subset of cards from 2019’s Hidden Fates expansion, this is the first – but not the last – appearance of a shiny Charizard card on this list. Featuring strong attacks and striking minimalist artwork of just ‘Zard itself on a plain white background, it’s no wonder this card retains a median price point over $400.
The Shiny Vault “bonus sheet” from this expansion was so popular that the Pokemon TCG went back to that well as recently as 2024 with the Paldean Fates expansion, which also featured a subset of shiny Pokemon cards.
9. Charizard GX (Secret) – Holofoil
Set: Burning Shadows
Market Price: $438.99
This card features identical posing to the ‘Zard card from the Shiny Vault, but this variant from 2017 actually predates it and features the highly valued – and exceedingly rare – Rainbow Holofoil treatment that has been featured in a number of TCG sets.
Also featuring the exact same attacks as the 2019 card, this card’s beautiful Rainbow art makes it a hot commodity among traders and collectors, but its intense value on the secondary market pales in comparison to the top eight cards on this list.
8. Charizard ex – Holofoil
Set: FireRed & LeafGreen
Market Price: $518.55
One of only two cards on this list that slots into the $500 price range, this beautiful Holofoil from 2004’s FireRed and LeafGreen set should not be confused with the modern-day Charizard ex from Paldean Fates, nor the numerous Charizard EXs from various sets when that type supertype reigned supreme.
Just as Base Set Charizard was the first Pokemon TCG card to boast an attack that dealt 100 damage, this was the first card to have an attack that dealt a staggering (for the time) 200 damage. Perhaps because of that attribute as well as a terrifically handsome full-card Holofoil treatment that included the card’s awesome Hiromichi Sugiyama art, its text box and even its edges, this card still commands a princely sum on the secondary market.
7. Charizard (Reverse Foil)
Set: Skyridge
Market Price: $530.00 (via PriceCharting.com)
The first appearance of this fascinating normal-type Charizard on the list (but not the last), Skyridge’s Reverse Holo Charizard could change its typing willy-nilly, or at least depending on what energy card was attached to it last.
While this card’s Reverse Holofoil printing is certainly desirable at over $525, keep reading to see where the standard Holofoil card falls on this list. Spoiler alert: It’s way up there!
