Charizard cards in the Pokemon TCG are among the most iconic and legendary pieces of cardboard the game has ever produced. Starting at the very beginning with Base Set Charizard, which still retains an eminently high value on the secondary market – especially for its first edition and shadowless variants – Charizard cards have long been incredibly popular and hugely valuable for collectors and fans alike.

Throughout the history of the TCG, Charizard has either been a competitive terror or a massively valuable chase card for collectors. These 18 Charizard cards are the most valuable ever printed and they showcase the best abilities and attacks that Charmander’s final evolution has had over the years in the TCG. So, dodge that Flamethrower attack and read on!

Charizard cards are legendary among collectors and fans of the Pokemon TCG.

Note: The card prices all come via TCGPlayer's Market Price History (with two notable exceptions) over the past calendar year and are subject to change. No First Editions are included within this list, though they are extremely rare and, thus, massively more valuable than the Unlimited versions of these cards.

Set: Base Set 2

Market Price: $226.85

This Charizard printing is a reprint of the original Base Set Charizard from the oft-forgotten Base Set 2 set, which was widely panned upon release as a cash-grab. Despite that, the set did debut the beautiful Cosmos Holofoil card treatment, which was a vast improvement on the Starlight Holofoil effect used in the Base Set, Jungle and Fossil sets.

Despite being a simple reprint of the far more valuable Base Set card, the Cosmos Holo effect still makes the Base Set 2 Charizard printing a highly collectible commodity – especially if you can find a card that has a highly-desirable-for-collectors “swirl” in the Holofoil treatment.

17. Charizard (Delta Species) – Holofoil

Set: Crystal Guardians

Market Price: $243.25

The first – but not the last – Charizard card on this list that is not a fire type, this intriguing and unusual Charizard is from the Crystal Guardians set – which featured “Delta Species” cards that completely altered the typings of various ‘mons. It also included cards that were multiple types.

In this case, this Holofoil Charizard is a lightning and metal type ‘mon and its terrific artwork shows ‘Zard being electrified by lightning. With a strong Peal of Thunder Poke Power and unusual type combination for a Chari’, this card just slips under the $250 threshold.

16. Charizard (Delta Species) – Reverse Holofoil

Set: Crystal Guardians

Market Price: $275.00

A different variant of the card immediately above it, this Charizard features a Reverse Holofoil treatment instead of the standard Holofoil treatment – meaning that everything except its artwork is Holofoil, unlike the standard Holofoil, which gives only the artwork a holographic sheen.

Again, these Delta Species cards are extremely unusual in the TCG as ‘mons having two types is something the game has not dabbled in much throughout its history. The novelty of that, plus the terrific artwork, likely make these cards quite desirable.
