One player from each NFL team for the new Backyard Football game

Which NFL players would be included if Backyard Football is indeed among the Backyard Sports games being revived?

NFC West

Arizona Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR

I just had to tap into the irony of his ongoing jersey dispute and include rookie wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. here – oh, and because it makes me feel old, given the fact that Marvin Harrison was the MVP in pretty much every Backyard Football season I played as a kid (and, well, the ones I still play, to this day, as an adult).

Los Angeles Rams: Kyren Williams, RB

It was tossup between Puka Nucua and Kyren Williams, but I had to go with the running back here. He may not be a big-name player out of the backfield in the NFL just yet, but he finished behind only Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry in rushing yards in 2023, despite the fact that he missed five games. If he continues to perform at that level, he can’t continue to fly under the radar.

San Francisco 49ers: Christian McCaffrey, RB

Speaking of Christian McCaffrey, we can’t not include arguably the best overall offensive player in the NFL. McCaffrey is the closest thing to a real-life Pablo Sanchez, so even with as deep of a talent pool as the San Francisco 49ers boast on both sides of the ball, it would be hard to exclude him here.

Seattle Seahawks: Kenneth Walker III, RB

Kenneth Walker III has had two strong seasons with the Seattle Seahawks to open up his NFL career, and he has played a major role in the team’s offensive production being as high as it has been after they were expected to finish at the bottom of the standings in the post-Russell Wilson era.
