At long last, the Backyard Sports video game franchise is set to return. Playground Productions confirmed plans to bring the iconic series back "in the coming months", and the company also committed to producing additional Backyard Sports merchandise, movies, and TV shows.

There were a total of 36 Backyard Sports games, featuring baseball, soccer, football, basketball, hockey, and even skateboarding, released from 1997 through 2010, and two mobile apps were released in 2015, bringing an end to the franchise’s first stint and prompting the ongoing hiatus.

For most of the fanbase, however, that first stint ended in October 2010, and it is a 14-year “rain delay”, rather than a nine-year break, that Playground Productions have committed to ending.

Baseball has been the primary focus following the announcement of the return of Backyard Sports, which was originally developed by Humongous Entertainment, but there are multiple other sports emojis featured in the bio of the official Backyard Sports Instagram account.

Football is one of them, with the other three being soccer, basketball, and hockey. Assuming Backyard Football does indeed return, which NFL players could be featured in the game?

Professional players have been featured in Backyard Football, alongside the iconic Backyard Kids, since the first game was released in 1999. Spots, of course, are limited, though how many pros were included in each game varied over the years.

Here is one player from each of the 32 NFL teams who could be included if Backyard Football is among the games that officially return. Let’s begin with the AFC East division.
