It’s been a long “rain delay”. Some say it started in 2015, most say it started in 2010. Regardless, Backyard Sports is finally set to return, with Playground Productions having committed to a sensational revival of the massively popular video game franchise that 2000s kids instantly fell in love with.

The iconic franchise, first developed by Humongous Entertainment, saw 36 different titles from 1997 to 2010 (plus two mobile apps in 2015). The games featured baseball, soccer, football, basketball, hockey, and even skateboarding.

The first of 10 Backyard Football games was released in 1999, and football was one of the two sports which were featured in the two 2010 releases that led into the long hiatus.

Much of the focus of the fanbase has been on Backyard Baseball since the return of the franchise was announced, but football is also featured in the bio of the official Backyard Sports Instagram page, along with soccer, basketball, and hockey.

Assuming that Backyard Football is among the new games slated to return, which NFL player will be on the cover?

Past cover athletes include Steve Young, Drew  Bledsoe, Donovan McNabb, Jeff Garcia, Daunte Culpepper, Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, Frank Gore, Eli Manning, Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson, and Jason Witten.

Here are five strong possibilities.
