MLB: 5 possible cover athletes for the new Backyard Baseball game
By Asher Fair
Juan Soto, OF, New York Yankees
There is a great – almost indisputable, in fact – case to be made for Aaron Judge as the current face of the New York Yankees, especially given his status as team captain, but we’re going with the club’s major offseason pickup in Juan Soto here.
Whether or not he remains a Yankee beyond the 2024 season remains to be seen, but whether he ends up in the Bronx, in Queens, or somewhere other than New York in 2025 and beyond, he has already established himself as a generational talent.
He has been a serious contender for four MVP Awards already (five if you count 2024), and he’s still only 25 years old. He is a World Series champion with the Washington Nationals, and his presence in the Yankees’ lineup in 2024 has helped spark a turnaround from what was one of the franchise’s worst seasons in decades a year ago.
His addition makes MLB’s most successful franchise a true World Series threat once again, something they haven’t been able to say in a long time.
Maybe they’ll even beat the Houston Astros along the way, something he also got experience doing five years ago with Washington.
