Throughout your journey in Baldur’s Gate 3, you've undoubtedly encountered numerous adorable creatures that tug at your heartstrings. Their innocent eyes beckon you to bring them into your camp and provide them with a forever home, shielded from the perils of the world. Yet, not all pets are easily obtained. Some require more effort, and without careful attention, they may slip through your grasp. So, here is a comprehensive guide to getting all BG3 animal companions.

Scratch

Let’s start with our best boy. Scratch is a multi-talented pet. You can summon him to join your adventures by throwing Scratch’s ball. He brings you gifts, aids in treasure hunting, and revives party members with kisses. Plus, he's a comforting big-brother presence for the Owlbear Cub.

Where to Find Scratch in BG3

Act: 1

Location: Above the Owlbear Cave in the Forest. You can get there by heading west from the Emerald Grove. Take the first right, and you will soon see the white pooch pacing back and forth near his deceased master, Gomwick the messenger.

Coordinates: X: 75, Y: 476

How to Recruit Scratch into Your Camp in BG3

When you find Scratch, be aware that he's still in denial about his master's death. Avoid alarming him with any harsh truths. Instead, be nice, show respect for his owner, and make it clear that you want him to follow you to your camp.

If You Can Speak with Animals

If you are a Druid or Warlock, communication is straightforward. But if your class can't do this, you can use a Potion of Animal Speaking, which you can buy from Arron in Druid’s Grove. Pass a Perception, Intimidation, or Persuasion check to gain Scratch’s trust. He'll share information about his friend and their situation. Tell him to travel with you. He will decline. So tell him if his master doesn’t wake up, he can follow your scent to your camp. Scratch will appreciate it and show up later at your camp.

If You Can’t Speak with Animals

Approach Scratch and try to pet him. He will resist, so pass an Animal Handling, Perception, or Intimidation check to proceed. Select options that calm Scratch, then attempt to pet him again and invite him to your camp. Scratch won't follow you immediately, so let him sniff your hand. Once he has come to terms with the fact that his master won't wake up, he will find you later by scent.
