Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a massive game. An adaptation of the beloved 1997 PlayStation classic, Square Enix has delivered a huge open world action-adventure RPG with multiple regions worth exploring.

While Chocobos make it quick to get around, the game also offers you the option to fast travel. There are two types of fast traveling within the game: within the region itself and to another region. But there are some steps you'll need to take to unlock this ability.

How to fast travel within a region

Fast traveling within a region you're already in is pretty straight forward. Each region has something called Chocobo Stations that you can rebuild by simply standing the sign back up. Once you do that, this becomes a fast travel location. There are also Intel spots, like the Tower, Lifespring or Fiend that you can choose.

When fast traveling to a location, you have multiple options. You can either fast travel and warp there, or you can "Walk" or take a "Chocobo."

If you're in a rush, simply warp to the location. But if you want to take in the views, riding a Chocobo is a great option. Not only is it quicker than walking, but you still have the option to initiate combat with a First Strike.

How to fast travel between regions

The world of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is divided into regions. After leaving Midgar, you'll visit Kalm for a flashback, the fishing town-turned-military outpost of Junon, the beach town of Costa Del Sol and eventually Corel and the Gold Saucer.

These areas are broken into open-world regions. Outside Kalm is your first open world area, the Grasslands. Once you progress through the story enough, you'll emerge in the Junon region and temporarily lose the ability to fast travel back.

To unlock fast traveling between regions, you must speak to certain characters or complete optional side quests. In Junon, for example, the main questline will unlock the regional Chocobo, but you'll need to complete a side quest to unlock fast travel between the Grasslands and Junon via Chocobo Carriage.

Here's a quick rundown of the places you'll need to visit to unlock regional fast travel:

  • Grasslands: Speak to the Ranch Hand at Bill's Ranch
  • Junon: Seak to the Ranch Hand at Gabe's Ranch
  • Under Junon: Speak to the Ferry Attendant at the Ferryboat Dock
  • Costa Del Soal: Speak to the Ferry Attendant at the Ferryboat Dock
  • Core: Call Cid from the phone at the Core Airstrip
