A new rumor claims that Resident Evil 9 will launch next year. While Capcom has yet to officially announce anything, insider Dusk Golem claims that the next installment in the popular action horror franchise could arrive as soon as January 2025.

On social media, Dusk Golem shared what he has heard about the game, notably its 2025 release window and that the game could be revealed soon.

He notes that if the targeted release date of 2025 is true, then Resident Evil 9 will have been in development for seven years, as it began alognside Resident Evil Village back in 2018.

At the time, he explains, Resident Evil Village was viewed as more of a standalone spin-off, but it ultimately became Resident Evil 8. And now, Resident Evil 9 is, well, Resident Evil 9 — the next mainline entry in the series.

He also notes that Resident Evil 9 will have the biggest budget and longest development time of any Resident Evil game to date — and there's probably good reason for that.

As Dusk Golem earlier reported, Resident Evil 9 could be the first truly open-world Resident Evil game to date. It's believed that Capcom greenlit Resident Evil 9 alongside Draogn's Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds with the intention of expanding its in-house engine's open-world functionality.

Capcom successfully leveraged the RE Engine to create an open world experience for Dragon's Dogma 2, and now the publisher could be looking to do the same with Resident Evil 9.

If this all turns out to be true, then it shouldn't be long until we get confirmation. The Summer Game Fest is set to take place on June 7 wituh the Xbox Summer Showcase on June 9. Both present an opportunity for Capcom to showcase its newest Resident Evil title.

It's possible that Capcom could tease it ahead of the big event and then present a full reveal during the Summer Game Fest. The publisher typically also hosts its own summer showcase around the same time, so perhaps they will wait until then to share full details.
