You may have been shocked at the news the video game industry announced earlier this September. If you were shocked, you were not alone. It has been announced that Flappy Bird will be making a return after a long 10-year hiatus which saw the previous developer pull the game from the App Store in 2014.

Dong Nguyen is the original creator of Flappy Bird. The game that brought him in tons of money every day and created one of the most popular App Store games of all time. Flappy Bird became a global phenomenon that saw it rise to number one on the App Store charts in over 100 different countries. This was a game with over 50 million downloads. This was a game that players poured hours and hours on end into, just to see how long of a streak that they can get. Gamers wanted bragging rights over their friends for the longest streak. That was until Dong Nguyen announced that he was pulling this iconic game from the App Store, and it would no longer be playable by the community.

Dong Nguyen knew how much of a success Flappy Bird was and how much money it was making him, but he stated that at the end of the day, "it was ruining my life." Nguyen also went on to state that "Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed. But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it's best to take down Flappy Bird."

This was very upsetting to a lot of gamers, but now 10 years later in 2024, Flappy Bird will be playable once again. However, this time it will feature a lot more to do.

New things to expect with Flappy Bird in 2024

When the game makes its return in 2024, it is not going to be as simple as it was in 2014. There is going to be much more to do.

To make all of this even possible, Flappy Bird was acquired by the Flappy Bird Foundation. The Flappy Bird Foundation is a new team that acquired the rights to the name "Flappy Bird" from Gametech Holdings LLC.

The Flappy Bird Foundation Team has already stated that they plan on keeping the design and objective similar, except there will be new characters, new areas to explore, new modes, a progression system to level up your Flappy Bird, and even a multiplayer mode. All things that will help prolong the lifespan of the re-release of Flappy Bird.

Flappy Bird will be playable in 2024

You may be wondering, "when will I get to play this updated Flappy Bird?" To answer your question would be very soon. The newly rejuvenated Flappy Bird will first be available on desktops and other web browsers targeted by the end of October or at least by the end of the year. If you are hoping to play Flappy Bird on your iOS or Android devices, you will have to wait till 2025.
