Call of Duty fans eagerly awaiting news on the next installment in the annual blockbuster shooter franchise may have to wait until next month.

Microsoft confirmed last week that the Xbox Games Showcase will be livestreamed on June 9, 2024. It will once again be a double-feature with the show followed by a [REDACTED] Direct that will "deep dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise."

Following this announcement, fans immediately began speculating that this mysterious direct presentation will focus on the new Call of Duty game.

Microsoft's teaser actually aligns with previous rumors that Activision would be revealing 2024's Call of Duty game during the Xbox Game Showcase. While nothing official has been announced yet, rumors indicate that this year's game will be titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, and set during the Gulf War.

It's possible that Activision could release a few broad teasers ahead of the big reveal in June. Both Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson previously reported that the showcase will feature "some form of deep dive into the game, presumably a campaign mission walkthrough if they go traditional."

This could be followed by a multiplayer reveal in August, and a Zombies deep dive shortly afterward — all of this leading up to the release of the new game. Again, nothing official has been announced or even teased yet, but Call of Duty remains one of the most popular gaming franchises.

Assuming Activision sticks to tradition, 2024's Call of Duty game should be released in early November. The latest game int he series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, was released on November 10, 2023.

Fans who want to tune into the Xbox Games Showcase can do so on June 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET. We don't know how long the show will run, but they usually last about an hour and ah alf. The follow-up Direct will likely begin shortly afterward. Additionally, Xbox promises a week's worth of coverage featuring updates and deep-dives on a ton of games coming to Xbox in 2024 and beyond.
