Pokemon Sun And Moon Pokemon, Ranked
34 – Fomantis/Lurantis
Type: Grass
Fomantis Classification: Sickle Grass Pokemon
Fomantis Pokedex: During the day, it sleeps and soaks up light. When night falls, it walks around looking for a safer place to sleep. They give off a sweet and refreshing scent. Cutiefly often gather near the tall grass where Fomantis are hiding.
Lurantis Classification: Bloom Sickle Pokemon
Lurantis Pokedex: It requires a lot of effort to maintain Lurantis’s vivid coloring, but some collectors enjoy this work and treat it as their hobby. It fires beams from its sickle-shaped petals. These beams are powerful enough to cleave through thick metal plates.
Explanation: Fomantis and Lurantis are my favorite kind of grass-type Pokemon–elegant ones, rather than squishily adorable or dinosaur-fierce. These two combine the grace of a praying mantis with the beauty of a flower. Lurantis especially reminds me a bit of Marluxia from the Kingdom Hearts series.
As a totem Pokemon, the sight of such a powerful Lurantis in Lush Jungle will likely encourage trainers to return and seek out a Fomantis to train. Those trainers will be rewarded with a powerful, if a bit generic, set of grass-type moves, including a move exclusive to Lurantis: Solar Blade. It’s like Solar Beam, only in the form of a physical attack, and pairs nicely with Sunny Day–a move Lurantis also can learn.
