36 – Passimian

Type: Fighting

Classification: Teamwork Pokemon

Pokedex: They form groups of roughly 20 individuals. Their mutual bond is remarkable—they will never let down a comrade. They battle with hard berries for weapons. Their techniques are passed from the boss to the group, generation upon generation.

Explanation: Normally, I dislike Pokemon who use berries for weapons, but for Passimian, it just doesn’t make much sense that he doesn’t. Though he does learn two moves based around held items, he doesn’t learn some of the berry-based moves you’d expect him to.

Passimian is exclusive to Pokemon Sun and tends to be paired with his Moon counterpart, Oranguru, who is slightly superior in the rankings (and in intellect) and significantly less generic in battle. The two go hand in hand, with Oranguru taking a more intellectual approach and Passimian’s lore involving training troupes of its own kind to fling berries as hard as they possibly can at anyone who makes them angry. The two Pokemon together form a clever balance for version exclusives, though I still won’t go so far as to say two versions of the same game are a positive.
