Pokemon Sun And Moon Pokemon, Ranked
40 – Cutiefly/Ribombee
Type: Bug/Fairy
Classification: Bee Fly Pokemon
Cutiefly’s Pokedex: It feeds on the nectar and pollen of flowers. Because it’s able to sense auras, it can identify which flowers are about to bloom. Myriads of Cutiefly flutter above the heads of people who have auras resembling those of flowers.
Ribombee’s Pokedex: It rolls up pollen into puffs. It makes many different varieties, some used as food and others used in battle. Some of Ribombee’s pollen puffs are highly nutritious. They are sometimes sold as supplements.
Explanation: It’s hard to fully articulate why Cutiefly and Ribombee annoy me so much. A multitude of reasons, perhaps: Cutiefly’s name is awful. Ribombee looks like a hipster caricature. There’s already a bee Pokemon. It seems like there are just far too many happy fairy creatures roaming about in flower patches (seriously, how is this the first Bug/Fairy combo? It feels like there’s tons). I guess it all comes down to the fact that Alola is full of Pokemon that are interesting, unique, or exciting for one reason or another, and Cutiefly + Ribombee are on the dull end of the spectrum. Even the lamest base forms in Alola evolve into something interesting…all except Hipster Bee here. Well, they can’t all be winners.
