14 – Pikipek/Trumbeak/Toucannon

Type: Normal/Flying

Pikipek Classification: Woodpecker Pokemon

Pikipek Pokedex: It can peck at a rate of 16 times a second to drill holes in trees. It uses the holes for food storage and for nesting. This Pokémon feeds on berries, whose leftover seeds become the ammunition for the attacks it fires off from its mouth.

Trumbeak Classification: Bugle Beak Pokemon

Trumbeak Pokedex: It eats berries and stores their seeds in its beak. When it encounters enemies or prey, it fires off all the seeds in a burst. By bending its beak, it can produce a variety of calls and brand itself a noisy nuisance for its neighbors.

Toucannon Classification: Cannon Pokemon

Toucannon Pokedex: When it battles, its beak heats up. The temperature can easily exceed 212 degrees Fahrenheit, causing severe burns when it hits. Within its beak, its internal gas ignites, explosively launching seeds with enough power to pulverize boulders.

Explanation: How a woodpecker transformed into a glorious toucan is mostly beyond me, yet here we are. I say “mostly” because a quick Google search reveals that apparently the two birds are closely related, although I wasn’t under the impression that actual evolution worked that quickly. Ah well. I have embraced Toucannon, noblest of the early game birds. He evolves early, so catching a Pikipek on the first route will net you a majestic creature of the sky by the second island or so. All of his attacks revolve around either making a ton of noise or spitting things like rocks, berries, or other items at the opponent. Like a real life toucan, Toucannon wins its battles by being obnoxious as heck.
