33 – Oranguru

Classification: Sage Pokemon

Pokedex: Known for its extreme intelligence, this Pokémon will look down on inexperienced Trainers, so it’s best suited to veteran Trainers. Deep in the jungle, high in the lofty canopy, this Pokémon abides. On rare occasions, it shows up at the beach to match wits with Slowking.

Explanation: Oranguru is the wiser counterpart to Passimian, who was listed above. While Passimian only appears in Pokemon Sun, Oranguru is exclusive to Pokemon Moon, and presents a counterbalance to Passimian’s rough strategy. Oranguru is a Normal/Psychic type, the former of which is weak against fighting, while the latter is strong. Where Passimian travels in groups, Oranguru works alone, looking down on those less than itself instead of training them up. Having counterparts such as these in two versions of a game is a nice change of pace.

But I like Oranguru better. It has dual-typing (a nearly unique type combination!), doesn’t rely on berries, and apparently has quiz contests on beaches with Slowking. That would be a trivia night worth watching!
