Pokemon Legends: Z-A partnership with CMLL went perfectly

A few weeks ago I told you about an event in which Nintendo and legendary wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre were working together to promote Pokemon Legends: Z-A. My word, did CMLL understand the assignment.

The main event saw Team Hawlucha, comprised of Mistico, Mascara Dorada, and Titan battle Team Machamp with Volador Jr., Hechicero, and Barbaro Cavernario in a two-out-of-three falls match. The crowd were given paper hats of Hawlucha and Machamp to wear, but many fans brought their own costumes or masks. Attendees also received a Pokemon Home medal with Hawlucha and Machamp art, and it is one of the many reasons I'm jealous I was not at this event.

There was even a deafening Togepi chant:

Pokemon and pro wrestling were an important part of so many of our childhoods, which is why they fit so well together. Hawlucha and Machamp have a great storyline going right now. Look at the Mega Hawlucha reveal trailer in which he chases Machamp down like he is owed the rent money.

It looks as if everybody involved with this promotion had the most fun imaginable, which is what you want to see. If only all ad campaigns could be this much fun. I am reminded of the time WWE star Dolph Ziggler worked a match dressed as KFC's Col. Sanders, part of a campaign in which various celebrities including Jim Gaffigan and Darrell Hammond played the legendary chicken salesman.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is coming to Switch and Switch 2 on Oct. 16.
